The last few years, I've had the joy of playing Santa for some families in need. It's always fun to see the children's faces as they approach the big guy in the red suit.
Their requests were typical, but in the middle of the Hot Wheels and video games came one young teenage girl. When I asked what she'd like for Christmas, she simply said, "For my mom and dad to get back together." I had a tough time keeping it together; as I sat there knowing I didn't have the power to fix what was broken.
In the midst of a season where the lights are bright and people everywhere are celebrating, there are also a lot of people feeling broken. Broken from finances, abuse, divorce, depression.
The Good News is that Christmas is all about broken people finding hope. Jesus took our punishment on the cross so we wouldn't have to be broken anymore. In Jesus' own words, He was "broken for you." So you could be forgiven. And whole.
