We took one of our granddaughters to the Christmas Festival at a theme park when she was two. And she loved it! There were lights everywhere, exciting music performances and a great Christmas parade. But there was one thing that impressed her so much, and she talked about it all year long - the Living Nativity. We got to see a portrayal of the angels' appearance to the shepherds, the visit of the Wise Men, and best of all, Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus in the Manger. From that night on through the year, when we would mention that theme park, the first thing she associated with it was "Jesus" no matter what time of year it was.

I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Not Just At Christmas."

Our granddaughter thought that Jesus should be all year round. She's right. Some of us think about Jesus mostly on His holidays, like Christmas and Easter. A lot of us think of Him mainly on Sunday at church. But He didn't come to be our holiday Jesus or our church Jesus. He came here to make possible a personal love relationship with Him that gives meaning to every day of our lives; not just to be a belief or a religious compartment in our lives.

The event Jesus, the holiday Jesus, the religious Jesus; they're just not enough to forgive your sin, to answer your questions about the meaning of your life, or to get you to heaven someday. You've got to belong to Him every day, not just visit Him occasionally. He told those who belong to Him: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5 ). And a "never leave you" relationship is the kind of anchor that our soul is looking for. Every other relationship in our life is "loseable."

People turn on us, they dump us, they disappoint us, they divorce us, or no matter how deep the relationship, they ultimately die on us. That's why we can never really feel safe in this world, until we anchor ourselves to the Savior who said, "He who comes to me I will never cast out" (John 6:37 ). In Matthew 28:20 , our word for today from the Word of God, Jesus made the ironclad promise that He alone has the power to keep, "Surely I am with you always."

Now, in a world of things and experiences that are never-lasting, Jesus offers the only thing that is ever-lasting. John 3:36 tells us that "whoever believes in the Son (that's Jesus, the Son of God) has eternal life." See, you don't have to die to see if you have eternal life. You have it as soon as you put your trust in Jesus. The verse then gives the alternative: "Whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on Him."

We had no chance with God until Jesus came that first Christmas. Until He gave His life on the cross to take the rap for every wrong thing we have ever done. We can't get anywhere near a holy God with our sin. But Jesus allowed God to dump all our sin on Him that day on the cross, so you could be clean, so you could be forgiven, so you could be with Him forever.

This Christmas season provides a wonderful time to make the Savior your Savior. He's not just for Christmas, but this Christmas season is a tremendous time to finally experience His love for yourself.

Look, if you're ready to make that move, you've already done life without Him and you don't want to do it any more, then I invite you to visit our website; it's YoursForLife.net. We've got nothing for you to join, nothing for you to sign up for there. Just a brief explanation of how to be sure you have begun your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You can read it, you can listen to it, you can watch it, but go check it out at our website - YoursForLife.net.

And today move beyond a religion about Jesus - to this love relationship with Jesus. Move from just believing things about Jesus - to really belonging to Jesus.

"We had no chance with God until Jesus came that first Christmas."--- ???!!!!
Think about all the people for centuries before He came! Really! All those people had no chance with God? What a wonderful, loving God you believe in! Sent them all to hell before Jesus came along to save you!
Really?

If "we had no chance with God before Jesus came..." everybody centuries before must have gone straight to hell and are still burning forever! Wow! What a tyrant for a God you believe in! And one who finally became a Christian and sent his Son to save us from "the rap?!" Jesus came to straighten out people like you who think the way all thought in those days and apparently today too!...Vicious tyrant to be feared. God has always loved all of us since Man began, not just since Jesus came!

Marvin... maybe I misunderstand you from what you have said why do you want to be associated with Jesus? Why even darken the doors of church? I get the impression that you are saying that it doesn't matter we are all saved anyway? ??

We don't 'darken the door of a church" to get saved. If we did, we would only go once, get saved, and then go home. We go to church to learn about The Kingdom of God
and be inspired by God's great Gift of the Universe for us. Jesus did not say "Seek me," but "Seek the Kingdom of God" and all these things will be yours as well. then we are "saved" from our ignorance about the Greatness of God.

Gary:

Don't let anyone confuse you about Who Jesus really is. He's the divine Son of God (God the Son) who was willing to take on human flesh so He couold die for our sins. Because of our sinful nature we need a Saviour to die in our place. He's our substitute.

If we confess and repent of our sins He will be faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness .
1st John 1:9.

Number one. There's no such thing as an ever burning hell that burns throughout eternity. God never said there was. That was added to scare people.

I will still go by what the Bible says. What Bible are you using?

Whether we're saved or lost is our choice not God's. He just honors our choice, but it doesn't make Him happy to have His people disobey Him.

Matt: 13:42, Jesus says: "And shall cast them into a FURNACE OF FIRE: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."

Matt: 25:41, Jesus says: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting FIRE,"

Rev: 20:15 says, " And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the LAKE OF FIRE."

Now, George, do you still "go by the Bible" or do you decide that "it was added to scare people."

Yes Marvin. I still go by the Bible. Remember though that the lake of fire at the end of the world mentioned in Revelation is real, but will only burn until Everything is burned up. He's not talking about a fire that will burn throughout eternity. Read Malachi 4.

Thanks for finally using scripture to back up your statements, but don't take them out of context.

George: Malachi 4 was written by someone just as if I had written something and said that God said it to me. How God is perceived is the only difference, no matter how many preachers tell you differently. God did not stop speaking to mankind when the covers of the Bible were closed. He speaks to me the same as he spoke to anyone in history. No magic.

George and Marvin the following verses state several points. The fires of hell are eternal and those that don't choose to follow Jesus will end up there for all eternity. This is in part why our spiritual condition is so important.
Matthew 18:8 (ASV)

Matthew 25:41 (ASV)
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:

Gary:

The scriptures that state the eternal fires is talking about the effects (results) of the fires will be eternal, not the actual fires itself.

A loving God would not want or allow people to burn throughout eternity. The actual fires will go out when everything is burned up. The wicked will be ashes under the feet of the righteous and will no longer exist.

Find every scripture you can on the subject and usse a concordance if you nee to.
Merry Christmas

Gary: You show me the scriptures that say that the fires will go out, but the effects of the fires are eternal. That is what you said. "Find every scripture you can on the subject and use a concordance if you need to." And then when you do, find me a witness to those "facts" and don't tell me God is the witness because everything He said is the opinion of the person who wrote them.
Merry Christmas"

Marvin:

Gary didn't write that comment, I did. The people who wrote the Bible (scriptures) was guided by the Holy Spirit. It's better to study the Bible subject by subject instead of jumping all over the place.

To change the subject. Either you believe the Bible or you don't.

George, Read Matthew Chapter 24-25. These are the words of Jesus. The fires of Hell will never go out and if you read the account of the rich man and the begger you will see that the rich man went to Hell and is in everlasting torment. That is the fate of all that deny the Saving Power of Jesus Christ! God is a loving God but He can not tolerate the sin in us. The only way is to accept Jesus's pament for Our sin...

Ever hear of a parable? That was What Jesus was telling when He was referring to the rich man in hell. There is no fire that will burn throuout eternity. If there is a hell where people are burning now where is it?

George, You must interpret scripture in light of every other scripture. Hell is a real place and so is Heaven. To deny the existence of one is to deny the existence of the other. With your perspective you have no need for a savior and your faith is in vain, Church is just a social gathering and feel good session. I revelation it states that there will be many that are sent to eternal punishment that thought they were saved.

Gary:

Let's not start passing judgment on who's going to make it and who isn't. My Salvation is sure in Jesus Christ alone, and He's the only one who can Judge. Take Sodom and Gomorrha. They were destroyed by what God called an everlasting fire, but those cities are not burning now, but the effects (results) of the fire are permanet.

Can you imagine a loving God watching people burn throughout eternity. NO WAY.

George: Looks like you are starting to come around to my way of thinking. While the Bible is explicit as to an eternal hell for all repentant sinners, you have decided that eternal hell is to burn up things, rather than people. Wow! I can't even be that liberal! Hell is something the Hebrew people knew as real, Gehenna, just outside Jerusalem to burn the poor because they had no money to buy a sepulcher.

Even if what you say about this place called Gehenna is true the people are not burning now. They would have been burned up and turned to ashes by now. If you set a house on fire would it burn continually for all eternity? No. It would burn until it was completely destroyed and become ashes.

The lake of fire mentioned in Revelation will be the same way, it willl burn until there's nothing left then go out. The repentant sinner whose confessed and been forgiven will not have to worry.

George: You are correct. Gehenna, real, was always on fire, hence the concept of eternal fire, unreal. Now with the house, you are back to things burning forever and that is not what the scriptures say. I do not believe in the eternal damnation belief, as those primitive people did. God has inspired me to think otherwise. Progressive growth of belief is true and acceptable.

George, It is not I that judges but Jesus Christ and the scriptures are clear about the fact that those that do not hold to Jesus and his saving atonement will spend eternity in Hell in torment with the fallen angels. God did not put them there each one made that choice themselves. If you dont beleive in Gods punishment then there is no fear or reason for Jesus. I will and do continually pray for the Holy Spirit to help me follow His path that I might spend eternity in Heaven with God

Gary:

I never said that I didn't believe in a Just God who will destroy those who totally reject Him. You're right Jesus is the only one who can judge. I believe in the atoning blood that Jesus shed for me. I believe that the fallen angels, Satan and anyone who follows him (Satan) will be burned up in the lake of fire mentioned in Revelation.

What I do not believe is that it will burn throughout eternity.

Ever hear of a parable?Yes, untrue, but designed to tell the truth.
That was What Jesus was telling when He was referring to the rich man in hell. There is no fire that will burn throughout eternity.Source? If there is a hell where people are burning now where is it? If there is a hell at all, where is it? Answer: Gehenna, just outside the city gates of Jerusalem where the bodies of the poor were thrown, always smoldering.

Gary:

Please allow me to finish my thought from my Previous comment. The lake of fire in Revelation is prepared to the devil and his angels. They will be burned up and destroyed, so will the wicked who refuse to repent and turn to God.

Satan, the fallen angels and the wicked will not burn throughout eternity, they will be burned up and destroyed and cease to exist.

Read every scripture you can find on the subject.

Time to move on.

Hope:

Sorry that you're upset (grieved.) I'm not inventing truth, only going by what the Bible says. If you would compare scripture with scripture when studying whatever subject you study in the Bible instead of going by what others say you won't be confused.

I don't even know how we got on the subject of hell anyway, but let the Holy Spirit guide you and pray when studying the Bible and compare scripture with scripture like I already mentioned.

God bless.

When did "the truth" become what you learned from other preachers? They have preached the scriptures out of context with their history for over 2,000 years. For instance: "Blessed are those who are poor in spirit" is about those who are on their deathbed, poor in breath, for they shall see God...shortly. Did you ever get that preached to you? "spirit" from spiro, spirare, spiritus (to breathe!)

George: I am preaching on John 1: 1-5 Sunday. There is nothing in those verses that mention Jesus or Son. It is God as "Logos" or "The Word" and "The Universe"
means "The Word." So the Universe was God and in it, seek the Kingdom of God means to search in the Universe for anything you want to know about Him. Him in John 1:1-5 is God personified.

Are you telling that the universe that God created came and died on the cross for my sins? How rediculous.

I feel sorry for you, but I will pray for you too.

According to my Bible King James version Jesus is the Son of God. Read John 1:14, and Hebrews 1:1-10.

Too bad I can't figure out how to use a blog, so I'm not limited on what I want to write.

gEORGE: Your reasoning would be like this:
"Are you telling me that the subtotal of all your body parts are not George? "The Logos was God! "The Word was God! Universe means The Word. The logos was the Universe, was The Word, and was God. Your scriptures were written by people who did not get it!
And George, you don't need a blog. Just write me marvinpurser@gm ail.com. anytime.
