In our house, my youngest son is one of the first to ask how close we are to Christmas. He can't wait for Christmas to come! But he's also quick to point out something that takes place just a few days earlier - his birthday. He wants to make sure that his birthday isn't missed in the countdown to Christmas.
Jesus knows that feeling because so many people do all the Christmassy things and largely forget it's His birthday. More importantly, they miss why He came that first Christmas. It was a rescue mission to rescue us from the darkness, now and forever, of running our life our way instead of God's way.
To save our life, He gave His on a cross. And He wants this Christmas season to be a birthday for you too! Your birth into God's family. God's story, the Bible, says "to all who accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12). They're reborn!
