Our four-year-old grandson asked his daddy, "Do you know my favorite thing about Christmas? Presents." Well, there's no surprise there. And then ... "Because Jesus is our present."
He really is. The Bible reveals what was really happening that first Christmas: "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son" (John 3:16).
Jesus is the gift. And He came to give the greatest gift of all. Life. Forever. The Bible says: "The wages of sin is death." That separation from God that we deserve because we've done our life our way instead of God's way. "But," the Bible says, "the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).
Now, you don't earn a gift. You gratefully take it. You can't pay for a gift. And no amount of good you do will get you to heaven. Someone else paid for your sin. Jesus did. On a cross. Your hope of heaven is taking His blood-bought gift by faith.
