The question of what God looks like is open-ended. There have been many guesses.

There have been many who have talked about what it would be like if He was here on earth. Have you ever wondered what would happen if God became one of us?

Actually, God did become one of us. John 1:14 from the Word of God says, "The Word," speaking of Jesus Christ, "became flesh and lived among us and we beheld His Glory." Earlier in that chapter it says that He was there from the beginning. He created everything there is, and now He became one of us. His name was and is Jesus. Jesus said, "He who has seen me has seen the Father." ( John 14:9)

When God was one of us, what was He like? He was born in a stable. He was poor by choice. His family turned on Him. He was tempted like you are, and He grieved over the death of people He loved.

He knew what it was like to be lonely, to be betrayed, to be physically abused, and to die. When God was one of us, He forgave a sinful woman everyone else was ready to stone. He loved the children, who even His own disciples thought were unimportant. He still loves those that others might think are unimportant. When God was one of us, He walked right past the cheering crowds to seek out one hurting person in need just as He is seeking you today, right now.

What did His face look like? The prophet Isaiah says when He was beaten that His face was so disfigured beyond that of any man and His form was marred beyond human likeness. Why would God become one of us and submit Himself to this humiliating, dehumanizing torture? We find the answer in Mark 10:45, "For even the Son of Man came...to give His life as a ransom for many."

We know what a ransom is. It's the price paid to get someone back. Jesus came to pay the price to bring you back. You are away from God terminally because of sin. Through Jesus' brutal death He became the substitute to take your hell; to pay your penalty.

Nobody has ever loved you like Jesus. Now He's very close to you. He's made His move all the way from heaven's glory to become one of us because He's the only one who could pay the penalty for us. He's come to where you are to offer you this opportunity to begin that relationship for which He spent His life. It's your move now. Jesus has gone the distance from heaven to the cross to where you are right now, to reach you with His incredible love. Don't make life's biggest mistake. Don't miss Jesus.
