Submitting Your Rescue Story

A Rescue Story Tells How You:

  • Entered the world of a lost person
  • Focused on or approached this person
  • Identified their point of need and created spiritual curiosity
  • Started with their starting point
  • Avoided religious traps
  • Emphasized a relationship with Jesus
  • Encouraged them to start their relationship with Jesus

Writing Your Rescue Story

When writing your rescue story, use everyday language and avoid using "Christianese." (What is "Christianese"?) It's also helpful to use verses from the Bible to better explain a lost person's need for Jesus. Throughout your story, tell what scriptures references you used to help you in this rescue. Use the steps below to tell your rescue story.

Explain How You Entered Their World -

Lost people don't just come to you. You have to go into the world of a lost person you hope to have in heaven with you. "The Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost" (Luke 19:10 ). How did God open a door for you to talk to a lost person? Did God use an existing relationship with a lost person to reach them?

Explain How You Focused On/Approached This Lost Person -

Rescue one person at a time. It's a practical way to begin your commitment to be a spiritual rescuer and a powerful way to start a miracle. Did you ask God to lay one specific person on your heart to rescue? After God laid one lost person on your heart, how did you focus on that one person? How did you make that lost person a priority to rescue?

Explain How You Identified Their Need/Created Spiritual Curiosity -

How did you use a connection you have with the person to open a conversation that identified their need and created spiritual curiosity? In what ways did God ask you to express His love to them? How were you different in ways that matter to them? What change or difference in you was noticeable and meaningful to them?

Explain How You Started With Their Starting Point -

While many of the lost people we need to rescue do not care much about the disease of sin, they care deeply about the symtoms of sin in their lives. What need of theirs did you begin with? How did you move from their need or the symptom that they know about to the sin Jesus died to save them from?

Explain How You Avoided Religious Traps -

Conversations can easily turn to religion or church and prevent a lost person from the desire of a relationship with Christ. How did you avoid religious traps? How did you focus the conversation on the importance of a relationship with God? Our mission is soley to present "Jesus Christ and Him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:2 ).

Explain How You Emphasized The Relationship -

It's all about Jesus and a personal relationship with Him. How did you explain that this is life's most important relationship? Did you tell them what Jesus means to you?

Explain How You Encouraged Them To Start Their Relationship With God -

How was this rescue concluded? What did you say to encourage them to make a personal life-changing committment to Jesus Christ?
