Israel could have been wiped out. The odds against them were staggering in the spring of 1967. Enemy forces were ready to move against them from all sides, supported by 450 combat aircraft. They never got off the ground.

Israel changed the balance of power with massive, simultaneous air attacks against all Egyptian air bases. One report said: "Before the end of the first day of fighting, the air forces of the participating Arab states had been destroyed, thereby determining the fate of the entire war. Israeli armored forces could then fight the battle under 'clear skies.'"
