Dear Friend,
Not too long ago, I was able to visit the cemetery in Nova Scotia. My visit was deeply moving. Especially the rows of nameless graves marked simply, "April 15, 1912." Their graves face that vast ocean where they were lost. The sadness I felt in that windswept graveyard was, in part, because I knew these folks didn't have to die that fateful April night. Floating in life jackets in those icy waters, they cried for the people in the half-empty lifeboats to come and save them. But tragically, the lifeboats kept rowing away. In those graves are some of the 327 people the Nova Scotia funeral ships found floating in the water, frozen to death. Lost because the people who were already saved did nothing about the dying people who were within their reach. What really got to me at those gravesites, though, was knowing that awful tragedy is being reenacted today. Every day. Around the world. People are dying spiritually, heading for an eternity more awful than words can describe. Because the people who are already saved are doing nothing about the dying people all around them. And if we do not tell them about our crucified and risen Savior, that lost person "will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for this blood" (Ezekiel 3:18 ).
