Disney World. The Magic Kingdom. How can a four-year-old girl be a little cranky in that dream destination for kids her age? Our granddaughter had been having a great day there with her mom and her cousins while her daddy was busy in meetings. She'd done all the princess stuff she loves, she'd gotten the autographs of Disney characters she loves, she'd gone on rides she'd been looking forward to. But for some reason, by early afternoon she was just a little out of sorts. By that time, her dad was available, and he showed up to take her on some rides. And suddenly, it was like the clouds had blown away and the sun came out.
Today's man is more confused than ever. With so many demands and so many voices, it is often unclear what a real man "should be." For most men, life is all about conquest! But which areas of a man's life are most important to conquer?
Two very different worlds - a desert Indian reservation and the concrete canyons of Wall Street. But desperation feels the same in both places - "without God and without hope in this world." (Ephesians 2:12 )
On the reservation, there was another young suicide recently. The lone missionary there is now on the "hit list" of tribal leaders - because he's reached a few among this Gospel-resistant people group. Converts are being seriously persecuted and spiritual curses are being aimed at the missionary. And the Gospel is being blamed for drought, violence, and the most recent suicide.
I had called to encourage Joy and Greg, two friends of this ministry. They challenged and encouraged me. When I thanked them for being in that small percentage of believers who give to reach people without Christ, Joy said with deep emotion:
"We remember what we were like when we were lost..."
