You know, I'm just not used to news reporters referencing the Book of Revelation. But, I've heard some of them doing it fairly recently. These aren't ordinary times. These people have been referring to statements in the Bible about things like earthquakes and disasters; references to what the Bible calls "the last days." I mean, you think about what's been going on in our world, and in nature, and in governments, and you can understand why people are starting to think Bible a little bit. You know, the Bible talks about these last days—the last days of human history—the days before the personal return of Jesus Christ who will change things forever.

I mean, within little more than a year, there's been a massive earthquake in Japan, Chile and New Zealand. I just saw on TV a map of the Pacific "Ring of Fire," which is the part of the world where most major quakes erupt. It shows Japan on the northwest corner, New Zealand on the southwest corner, Chile on the southeast corner. And then if you go up the West Coast of the United States, the final corner in the northeast. Well, you can guess what the headline was, "Is California next?"

I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You about "Scary Times."

Now of course, there's an additional concern in the aftermath of a natural disaster. We saw in Japan the specter of possible nuclear meltdowns, and that had people imagining some "apocalyptic" scenarios. The former Speaker of the House even called it "beyond biblical" what we were seeing. And then there's all those revolutions that are popping up on our news, it seems like almost daily sometimes. It seems like the whole world is shaking sometimes.

In our word for today from the Word of God, Jesus said that would happen. In Luke 21:11 He said "...there will be great earthquakes...in various places and fearful events." Of course there have been earthquakes for thousands of years, but apparently they're going to get bigger and more frequent before Jesus comes.

Jesus also said there would be "wars and revolutions" (Luke 21:8 ) and "nation (and that original word means ethnic groups) will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom...on the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity" (Luke 21:25 ). I couldn't help but think of that as I watch long-entrenched governments quaking with tidal waves of protests and revolution.

Then the Lord of the future, Jesus, went on to say that "...men will...be apprehensive of what is coming in the world" (Luke 21:26 ). There'll be upheaval in nature; there'll be upheaval in nations, and unrest in our souls. And then the drum roll! Here we go! "At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory" (Luke 21:27 ).

As the tsunami was racing across the Pacific, I saw this cable news banner: "People are urged to take urgent action to protect lives." Our potentially "apocalyptic" world seems to be calling us to one of two spiritual responses, or "urgent action." If you belong to Jesus, act urgently to tell people you love about Him - no more excuses, no more stalling. And if you don't have a personal relationship with Jesus, act urgently to give yourself to Him. That's how you'll be forever safe, no matter what shakes you, no matter what swamps you.

He is, after all, the Rescuer who died for your sins. He's the Conqueror who beat death on Easter Morning; He's alive. He can come into your life. And He's the King who will write the final chapter not only of human history, but of your history.

If you don't belong to Him, if there's never been a time you've given yourself to Him, let this be the day. These are urgent times. These are times to make sure you are anchored to the Lord of the future. Just tell Him, "Jesus, I'm done running my own life. I believe You died for my sin. I believe You're alive today and I'm Yours starting today."

Let me encourage you to go to our website and check out there some information we've put there. You can watch it, you can listen to it, and you can read it. But there are several forms where you can find out how to begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It's YoursForLife.net.

Listen to this promise from the Bible, "Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging...the Lord Almighty is with us" (Psalm 46:2-3 , 7). You know, as they say in those earthquake drills, "Hold onto something heavy." That's Jesus.

When the angel appeared to the Shepherds and said: "Fear not!" their greatest fear was Caesar and his Roman Soldiers. Usually they came with terrible messages for anyone.

When "Tsunami" times happen in our lives, they are no more catastrophic in one generation than the next.

The next angel comes "as a thief in the night." ....every generation to every man,
woman and child. You gotta look for him.

One of the Greek words that is translated as coming is "parousia," meaning abiding presence, although it is sometimes also used to refer to a person coming closer to others. It strikes me that there is a coming, a drawing close in abiding presence, that every Christian experiences every moment. If we don't enter into His coming to His Body, there will be a diminished joy when He comes for His Body.

One of my best friends has been raised in the church and continues to be active. However, he doesn't believe in Christ's return, nor does he believe that the world in which we live will one day parish and a new one created by God. He is very analytical in thought. How does one talk with someone who is a Christian but doesn't believe in the Bible as the true word of God

How much of the Bible is explained away, even by godly Christians who say they believe the entire Bible. But (they say) there are parts that don't apply. And there are things that the Bible doesn't really say, but confirmation bias clouds the human thinking. How many don't believe the first chapter of Genesis? How many don't believe Ephesians 4:11-13, or they modify it to fit their beliefs? And those are just two of many examples.

How many say they keep God's commandments yet do not keep the 4th as it was given by God!! What is the first word God states in that commandment "REMEMBER"... The 7th day Sabbath... Saturday is our day to rest, to worship, to praise our Creator! God never changed it - His word lasts forever!!!

Consider Romans 14:5-6 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

Yes it is a beautiful and humbling chapter. Words given to not make those weak in the faith to stumble. But the Bible says seek and ye will find. There are so many texts that talk of the importance of God's commandments and the sad thing is that people chop up God's word and take things out of context to say something it does not.If His commandments were not to be continued to be kept in the last days then He would have never had them in Revelation.
A Remnant will follow God's complete word.

For example: Revelation 12:17 “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the Commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” Revelation 14:12 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the Commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Revelation 20:14 “Blessed are they that do his Commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

God has given the local church I attend the command to follow the pattern of Scripture for the Church. Part of that pattern is the order of apostles who receive the revelation of the Scripture and govern the church. As part of the revelation that we receive in this way, we don't command circumcision, though it is commanded in the law, because of Acts 15. We meet on Sunday because of 1 Cor. 16:2, but not as a law because of Gal. 4:10, Col. 2:16-17, Romans 14:5-6

I should add that the apostles have taught us that it is important that we take one day a week off. This is not presented as a law or a way to earn salvation, however.

Here is what we have been taught: Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Col. 2:16 What does it say? The apostles have taught us that, in Christ, we rest from our own works when we allow Christ to work His work through us. This is the true Sabbath of God, and former Sabbaths were simply pointing to this true Sabbath.

The former Sabbaths you are talking about here were all part of The Ceremonial Laws(or the Law of Ordinances) NOT the 10 Commandment Laws. The cermonial laws were pointing to the ultimate sacrifice. Jesus Christ permanently took the place of Ceremonial Laws when He cried out “It is finished” and bowed His head and died. When the unseen hand tore the temple curtain from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51), this signified that this ceremonial law system was once and for all time nailed to the cross.

Well for anyone who wants to seek and find... google the ten commandments vs catholic commandments and you will find many sites that will show you how Sunday worship came to be. It was changed by man. NOT God. Search with your heart - God will show you the truth, He promised He would. (Deut 4:29)

For more on the Ceremonial laws (or ordinances) and to see charts to compare and understand the importance of still keeping ALL of the 10 Commandment Laws do a google for ceremoniallaw.... you'll find it under the title Ceremonial Law, The Sabbath And Colossians 2:16.
Here is a beautiful promise in Revelation the book for the last days: Rev 20:14 “Blessed are they that do his Commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

Yes, Tania, we will understand all of this better on the other side. It's almost impossible to discuss on a board like this. You could google "The purpose of this page is to unveil the meaning of life" to get a better idea of where I'm coming from. I see that you have a dedicated walk. God loves to see that.
