Download MP3 (right click to save) It’s classic Charlie Brown and Lucy. Charlie’s charging down the field to kick the football that Lucy’s holding, and at the last second, Lucy moves the ball and Charlie goes flying. Now, few people know the name of the guy who holds the ball, but he really matters to the kicker.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and Rolf Benirschke was one of the best kickers in the NFL. Rolf’s career was interrupted by a near-fatal disease, from which he fully recovered. When he returned, he began to notice the total personal peace that his holder, Mike Fuller, had. Peace is hard to come by in a sports business where you can be here today and gone tomorrow. But Mike had it. Eventually Rolf discovered the Jesus who was the secret of Mike Fuller’s peace. Rolf actually told his story at a San Diego Billy Graham Crusade of which he was the chairman. He said, “Mike Fuller was holding more than the football in his hands. He was holding my eternity in his hands.” What a picture of the position every believer plays in the life of the lost people around them because we have the message on which their eternity depends—the news that Jesus literally died to pay for every wrong thing they’ve ever done so they could trade hell for heaven. The Bible says, “When I say to a wicked man (that’s all of us—sinners before God), ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him…to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood” (Ezekiel 3:17-18 ). Humanly speaking, we hold their eternity in our hands. That’s a great trust. We want you to know more about how to help those people be in heaven with you. That’s what our website’s for. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: Ezekiel 3:17-18 Learn how to share these articles with your friends (video tutorial) |
