Download MP3 (right click to save) When I first heard about the TV series, “24,” I thought the idea was a non-starter. I mean, the entire season is about one day, with each show being one hour of that day. A dumb idea, I thought. Well, it shows how much I know. They’re several seasons in now, and the show continues to draw a strong audience. And for Jack Bauer, the hero, the entire season is about just one day.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and just one day…seems to me that’s how God wants us to live the seasons of our life. Living each day like it’s our only day. So the title of the story of my life and yours might be “24.” It’s all about what you do with this twenty-four hours. Moses wrote: “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12 ). Notice how Jesus said our needs would be met: “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11 ). Notice what God says about how He’ll give us the strength we need: “Your strength will equal your days” (Deuteronomy 33:25 ). When you run ahead to what may happen the next day or next week or next month, you’re running ahead of your supply lines, because God gives the strength you need in 24-hour increments. When Jesus describes how we live a life for Him, He says: “If anyone will come after Me, let him take up his cross daily and follow Me” (Luke 9:23 ). You live for Jesus one day at a time. You give Him a day; He’ll make those days into a life lived for Him. Yesterday can’t be changed; tomorrow will be shaped by what you do today. So each new day, act like your whole season is this 24 and stand on God’s promise: “Every new day, He does not fail” (Zephaniah 3:17 ). This radio program references: Psalm 90:12 ; Matthew 6:11 ; Deuteronomy 33:25 ; Luke 9:23 ; Zephaniah 3:17 |
