On September 11, 2001, Stanley Pramnath was trapped on the 81st floor of Tower 2 at the World Trade Center. The plane that crashed into that building collapsed offices all around him and Stanley ended up trapped under a pile of sheet rock. And he prayed, “Lord, save me. I don’t want to die.” Brian was a broker who was escaping down that long stairway when he heard Stanley’s cries for help. And even though he was battling asthma and dust allergies, Brian stopped and went to work to free Stanley. They both got out alive! Later Stanley said, “I’m alive today because of Brian and the goodness of God.”

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and Brian had no idea that he would ever be a rescuer. He wasn’t a trained first responder, but he was there where the man in danger was—a man who would die if something wasn’t done. He forgot about himself and he went in for the rescue. Today, a man is alive because he did.

If you belong to Jesus Christ and you know someone who doesn’t, you are in that same potentially life-saving position. God puts it this way, “Rescue those who are being led away to death” (Proverbs 24:11 ). In another place, “Snatch others from the fire and save them” (Jude 23 ). If we could see the people around us through Jesus’ eyes, we’d see people who are headed for an unspeakable eternity, who will die if someone doesn’t stop to save them by giving them the Good News about a relationship with the man who died for their sins—your Jesus. Don’t fail them. Don’t fail Jesus by just thinking about yourself and leaving them lost.
