I’ll tell you, it gets me every time—watching the commemoration of one of the greatest military victories of modern times—that D-Day landing on some beaches in France on June 6, 1944. Of course, Steven Spielberg tried to capture the heroism and the sacrifice of those men who stormed those land-mined beaches and that blizzard of German bullets. When they recently honored the living and the dead from that day on the 65th anniversary, I heard a historical footnote to that day that underscored the unparalleled heroism of those men. Some of those who were wounded on the beach were later found to be AWOL from the hospital where they were being treated; they wanted to get back to the battle.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and that is a warrior—wounded, but still fighting—whether it’s fighting for your country or fighting for your Savior. Here are the orders for all of us who have enlisted in Jesus’ forces, “Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. When the day of evil comes, stand your ground” (Ephesians 6:10-11 , 13).

Even when the bombardment is heavy, even when it hurts, stay in the fight. So many of Jesus’ recruits get hurt or wounded and they just retreat or they become all about themselves because they’re hurting. The test of your commitment to Jesus and His cause is how you respond when you get hurt. Do you leave the battle, or do you stay in the battle like your Savior did? He was horribly wounded, and He kept fighting for you. How can we do any less for Him?
