Well it’s that season when you see all those red boxes on the weather map. Get ready to brace for wild weather that can hit like a hammer from the sky at any time. You know, Job had an interesting perspective on the weather in the Old Testament. He said, “God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways. He says to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour’ so that all men he has made may know his work. He stops every man from his labor.” I read in Newsweek, a guy who said after some great weather event, he said, “It’s God’s reminder that we’re not in charge.” Hello! I think he’s right.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and actually, most of the storms in our life don’t show up on the weather channel. They’re the storms that hit our health, and our finances, and our family, and our emotions, and our relationships. And they hurt. But if you’re going to get the pain, get the point. What’s the point? We’re not in charge. When we hit something we can’t change or control, or we can’t fix, God’s trying to get us to resign our “God Card”. It’s the one we all carry. We kind of say, “God, you run the universe. I’ll run me, thank you.”

You know, the greatest peace in the world and the beginning of a life that matters comes from surrendering and saying, “You’re God and I’m not.” The doorway to that relationship is summed up this way in the Bible. “A man said, ‘I acknowledged my sin to you and you forgave the guilt of all my sin’” (Job 37:6 ).

Life’s storms are designed not to blow us away, but to blow us home to God’s arms. A lot of people have found the way home at our website, and I want to invite you to meet us there. It’s alifethatmatters.org, because God put you here to live a life that matters.
