Download MP3 (right click to save) I love it when our son-in-law just sits down at a piano and starts playing. Those years of music training really pay off when he touches a keyboard. I had the privilege of being at his senior recital in college, and it was a memorable performance. After wards, there was a line of people up there congratulating him on that performance. Oddly enough, I did not see anyone complimenting the piano. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and why would anyone praise the instrument? It was the one who played the instrument who gave us such beautiful music, right? An instrument: that’s what I am; that’s what you are in God’s hands. Amazingly, He chooses to play His music through us. The great Apostle Paul realized very well who he and his fellow-teacher Apollos were, “What, after all, is Apollos?” he wrote. “And what is Paul? Only servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord has assigned to each his task” (1 Corinthians 3:5 ). He knew that the instrument didn’t deserve the glory for the concert. He said, “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” (1 Corinthians 4:7 ). Since you’re only the instrument, there are two important things to remember: first, you dare not steal God’s glory for what He did. Secondly, you can say yes to that scary thing that God’s asking you to do, because it’s not about you. It’s all about Him. It’s for His glory, not yours; it’s His adequacy, not yours. But what an honor to have the Maestro of the universe plays His music through you!
