It was my first international trip–10,000 miles from home. As I started down the concourse to my plane, I was looking at these three sad-faced little children waving at me and a wife who was doing her best to look brave for them. I managed to hold it together till I got around the bend where they couldn’t see me. Well, as sad as that parting was, we all could be encouraged by one fact, and it made all the difference. This wasn’t the end of our being together, it was just an interruption.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and did you know that’s how Easter changed death forever. Because Jesus walked out of His grave under His own power, He, in Bible’s words, “destroyed death and brought life and immortality to life” (2 Timothy 1:10 ). He said to all who put their trust in His death as the payment for their sins, “Because I live, you will live” (John 14:19 ). “That by His death” the Bible says, “He might free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death” (Hebrews 2:14-15 ).
So now all death could do to those who belong to Jesus is interrupt their relationship, never end it. Yes, the separation hurts. I’ve buried many of the people I love, but our grief has something on other side of the scale that outweighs it. It’s called hope—that confident assurance that we’ll be together soon because Jesus conquered death, and our lives and our eternities are in His hands.
Without Jesus, we have no hope of heaven because only He can erase the sin that keeps us out of heaven. With Jesus, we have no doubt of heaven. Because of His death, His resurrection, His promises, since we never know when eternity will begin for any of us, wouldn’t this be a great time for you to be sure that you belong to Him.
We’d love to help with that. Go to our website ALifeThatMatters.org.
