Poor Roy Riegels! His name is immortal in football history for all the wrong reasons. In the 1929 Rose Bowl, Riegels played center, and he suddenly found himself with the ball. So he took off frantically for the end zone. Strange thing though. His own team was chasing him. One of them tackled him just shy of a touchdown. It was only then he realized he’d been running toward the other team's goal post. So he's known forever as Wrong Way Riegels. But that's only half the story. See, the other half is encouraging for any of us who've ever realized that we've been running in the wrong direction.

I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and imagine the half-time locker room after Roy Riegels" big mistake. He was huddled in the back corner with his head in his hands. And the coach announced, "The same team will take the field second half." Riegels went to his coach and he said, "I can't do it, coach." The coach said, "Roy, the game's only half over. Get out there!" And he did. Now, his team lost the game, but sports writers would say they had never seen a player play like Roy Riegels did that second half.

I am so grateful we have in Jesus a coach who is the God of second chances, aren't you? David had sinned a terrible sin–he was broken over what he had done. His prayer to God could be the prayer of anyone who's messed up big-time. He said,”Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Create in me a pure heart, O God...restore to me the joy of Your salvation...Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will turn back to You" (Psalm 51:2 , 10, 12-13).

Three powerful prayers when you've blown it: "Lord, cleanse me. Lord, restore me. Lord, use me." And He will.
