Download MP3 (right click to save) We’ve been hearing the words every night on the news; you have recession, foreclosures, unemployment, bankruptcies. But for millions of people, maybe you or someone you care about, those are more than just words. They’re living the scary reality of not knowing where the money’s going to come from. There’s a story that might be a little encouragement at a time like this. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and Lawrence of Arabia took some Arabian young men to Paris with him. They didn’t even want to go out and see the sights, because they were so fascinated with the plumbing in the hotel. They’d turn on a faucet in the sink or the tub; water came pouring out on demand. They’re from the desert. Well, as they were packing to leave, Lawrence found them trying to pry loose the faucets on the bathtub so they could have water back home where water is so hard to come by. Well, he explained, “No, no guys, the faucet is connected to pipes, and those go to larger pipes to a reservoir in the mountains. Water doesn’t come from the faucet, guys; it comes from the reservoir only through the faucet." Maybe a faucet your money usually comes from isn’t working all of a sudden—your job, your savings, the value of your home. But those are only faucets. What a child of God needs comes from the reservoir; from your Heavenly Father. The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1 ). The Bible says, ”Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord. He will be like a tree planted by the water…its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7-8 ). There’s a promise you can hang onto when you’re not sure how your needs are going to be met. The faucet may have failed, but the Reservoir never will! There’s more spiritual encouragement at our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org, because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: Psalm 23:1 ; Jeremiah 17:7-8 |
