Download MP3 (right click to save) You can tell the Baby Boomers are aging; we’re seeing a lot more hearing aid commercials on TV. They’re making hearing aids less noticeable so people don’t have to feel as self-conscious wearing them. For years, President Ronald Reagan resisted any suggestion that he get a hearing aid. He finally got one, and a reporter asked him about it. “Oh, it’s great! It seems like I can hear everything now…things I never heard before!” And the reporter said, “What kind is it?” President Reagan responded, “About 2:30.”
I’m Ron Hutchcraft. He was a funny guy! But, you know, not being able to hear is a serious problem; the more important what you’re not hearing, the more serious the problem. If I’m missing something God’s trying to tell me, my hearing problems could cost me greatly. Samuel was one of God’s trusted leaders in the Bible, and one reason was his hearing. When Samuel was a boy, apprenticing with the priest in the temple, the Lord called his name. At first, he didn’t know who was calling him, but ultimately Samuel responded this way: “Speak, for Your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10 ). And because Samuel had his ears tuned to God’s voice, God trusted him with His plan for the nation. My problem is, sometimes I’m saying, “Listen, Lord, Your servant is speaking.” The question is am I; are you allowing time to hear what God wants to tell us? Do I just talk, or do I shut up and listen to His voice in my heart? Do I open my heart and say, “Lord, take my heart wherever you want it to go.” There’s so much needless stress and confusion and pain, just because we don’t do something about our hearing problem! This radio program references: 1 Samuel 3:10 |
