Download MP3 (right click to save) I was speaking recently for some business leaders in Manhattan–the epicenter of America’s devastating financial quake. One highly successful Christian brother told me the surprising truth that the hard times have revealed. He said, “A few months ago, if you’d asked any of us what we were depending on, we would have said we were totally depending on God. Until we lost a lot of the things we were really depending on.”
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and it’s true. The hard times reveal where our faith really is, what we’re really trusting in. C. S. Lewis said it brilliantly, “My own experience is something like this. I am progressing along the path of life in my ordinary contentedly fallen and godless condition, when suddenly a headline in the newspapers that threatens us all with destruction, sends this whole pack of cards tumbling down. At first I am overwhelmed, and all my little happinesses look like broken toys. Then, slowly and reluctantly, I try to bring myself into the frame of mind I should be in at all times. I remind myself that all these broken toys were never intended to possess my heart, that my only real treasure is Christ.” Paul talked about being under almost unbearable pressure, to the point of despairing “even of life.” And then he says, “But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead” (2 Corinthians 1:8-9 ). If you’re dealing with some broken toys right now, why don’t you let it be a holy wakeup call to remind you that your only real treasure is Christ. There’s a lot more information about living a life that really matters at our website. It’s called ALifeThatMatters.org. Check it out. This radio program references: 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 |
