Talk about “Extreme Makeover”, you should see what I saw not long ago. What one man has done with this building: 200,000 square foot eyesore not long ago. It was this abandoned old factory building in a deteriorating part of the city. But one Christian businessman saw something no one else saw—the potential of an army of volunteers and tradesmen mobilizing to turn that abandoned building into a center for ministries of compassion and outreach in his city. And today the love of Christ is going out from that building on a daily basis.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and as I walked through this transformed dump I saw more than a building; I saw me. I saw countless lives I know—people who have been transformed by the love and power of a Master Carpenter named Jesus. He’s like that businessman. He sees in you something that maybe no one else can see.

When Jesus met Simon the fisherman, the Bible described what the Master Carpenter saw: “Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas’ (which, when translated, is Peter)” (John 1:42 ). Peter means “the rock.” Other people looked at Simon and saw John’s son, a loudmouth fisherman, a hot-tempered, unpredictable guy. But Jesus doesn’t see what we are. He sees what we can be; what we will be if we’ll submit to His transforming Lordship in our life.

Jesus looked at Simon and saw, not the “flake” that he was, but the rock he could be. And that’s what Jesus sees when He looks at you—not what you are, but what He can help you become. Let Him take you there. You are made for so much more.
