Download MP3 (right click to save) It’s the kind of holiday story that made me feel sick in the pit of my stomach: out of control bargain-hunters stormed into a Long Island store on the day after Thanksgiving and trampled the worker at the door to death. Four other people were taken to the hospital with their injuries, including a woman eight months pregnant. Is it really that important to get a couple hundred dollars off a plasma screen? I’m Ron Hutchcraft. What hurts is realizing that the uncaring stampede at that store is an extreme picture of something that’s happening every day–running over people as we’re running toward our goal. Look, I’m a full throttle, make it happen guy and there have been times I’ve unintentionally run right over people in the pursuit of my noble cause…sometimes those people I love. It’s worth asking, “Who am I trampling right now as I’m running toward my goal?” The ultimate goal of God in rescuing me was that I be like His Son. And when Jesus came to blind Bartimaeus’ town, the Bible says, “Those who led the way rebuked” the blind man because he was crying out for Jesus. It says “they told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more.” I love the next two words, “Jesus stopped” (Luke 18:40 , 41). He orders the blind man to be brought to Him to heal him. He’s never too busy in pursuit of the most important goal in history to stop for one person in need. That’s my Jesus; that’s my model. “In humility…” the Bible says, “…consider others better than yourselves. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:3 , 5). Don’t run so hard; don’t run so fast that you don’t even realize who you’re trampling. There’s a lot more spiritual encouragement at our website ALifeThatMatters.org.
