Our daughter and our three-year-old granddaughter were looking at a friend's wedding pictures. And our little princess, who loves to get dressed up, asked if she could have a dress like that and be like the girl wearing it. Well, Mommy explained that someday Jesus might give her a man who loved Jesus that she could marry and be like the girl in that dress. Her reaction: "How about next Sunday?"

I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and that's not really a good idea, right? It will be someday, but wouldn't you agree this is like way too soon? But so many times we're exactly like that little granddaughter when it comes to something we need or want in our life, "How about right now, Lord?" And He may be saying, "Someday that will be a good idea, but it won't work if I give it to you now." At which point we often take matters into our own hands to "give God a hand" and to make it happen right away. Our granddaughter thinks she's ready to be a bride, and obviously, that's not true.

We think we're ready for whatever we've set our heart on, but God knows we're not. As the Bible says, "He has made everything beautiful in its time" (Ecclesiastes 3:11 ). Rushing it usually ruins it, but impatience is one of the major reasons people miss God's perfect will. They just can't wait! Consequently, so many people have ended up married to the wrong person, working in the wrong job, deeper in debt than they ever should have gone, leaving a trail of tears. Look, if you want God's best, follow God's command to "be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him" (Psalm 37:7 ). It's worth the wait.

This radio program references: Ecclesiastes 3:11 ; Psalm 37:7
