Download MP3 (right click to save) Those space shuttle astronauts were recently up there doing some work to extend the mission of that incredible Hubble telescope. She’s up there exploring all these amazing space frontiers. I had heard that the Mt. Palomar observatory had discovered 100 billion galaxies. And we’re all excited because we got to our moon; we took a picture of our solar system. Turns out that hundred billion count was wrong. Hubble has now discovered 135 billion galaxies and she’s still counting!
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and the ultimate discovery here isn’t how big the universe is. It’s how big the God is who made it all! The prophet Jeremiah said, “Ah, Sovereign Lord, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You” (Jeremiah 32:17 ). And then comes this stunning invitation from this overwhelmingly mighty God. He says, “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and mighty things You do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3 ). He’s talking about prayer. Some of our prayers sound so wimpy when you think of Who we’re talking to. When you pray, you’re entering the throne room from which 135 billion galaxies are governed, and you’re talking to the One who created them all, controls them all and is totally committed to you. Do we pray like that? John Newton, who wrote “Amazing Grace,” said, “Thou art coming to a King; great petitions with thee bring; for His love and power are such, none can ever ask too much!” What an awesome God we have! My hope is that you might help the people you know get to know this amazing God. And our website’s there to help you know how to do that, and I hope you’ll visit us there. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org.
