Download MP3 (right click to save) It happened a few weeks ago at a major hockey tournament in Canada; the Spokane Chiefs actually won the tournament and the captain skated out proudly with the trophy—I saw this on the news—it was sort of a Stanley Cup wannabe trophy, but it was nice. Suddenly, the trophy broke right in his hands with part of it falling to the ice. You should have seen the looks of bewilderment on their faces. I mean, what do you do when the trophy you just played your heart out for breaks in your hands? It’s a feeling a lot of us know about. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and how many times have we played our hearts out for a prize that ended up breaking in our hands? That position, the championship, the relationship, the vacation, the thing we always wanted, the dream come true only to find it was so fragile. It was actually pretty disappointing. Well that’s why God tells us to aim for something higher if we want a life that matters. The Bible says, “The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever” (1 John 2:17 ). Now instead of playing hard for things that you can lose, you play hard for the things you can never lose—God stuff instead of earth stuff. Could be that God’s actually allowed some trophy in your life to let you down. Maybe so you could reprioritize what’s getting your best so you’ll in Jesus’ words, “Seek first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33 ). A broken trophy can point you to a bigger goal and a bigger life. A bigger life is what our website’s all about. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. I hope you’ll go there because God put you here to live a life that matters.
