Download MP3 (right click to save) It wasn’t easy to get out of going to school when I was a kid. I mean, my Mom said the deciding factor was I had to have a fever, which led me to wonder, “How can I induce a fever on a day I don’t want to go?” Well, I had what I thought was a clever idea. Sit on the steam radiator in our apartment when the heat was coming up. I tried that once. Did I get a fever? No. Did I get blisters on my bottom? You got it…yeah! I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and that was one of my early attempts to make things happen. Unfortunately, I did not learn my lesson. See, too often I’ve tried to make things happen as a grownup when it either wasn’t God’s will, or more often, it wasn’t God’s timing. And all I made was a mess. Rebekah tried to deceive and manipulate her husband Isaac into giving his dying blessing to his younger son, Rebekah’s favorite. God promised it would ultimately go to the younger son, but she couldn’t wait for God to do it His way because it looked like Isaac was dying. Result: younger son had to flee to escape his older brother’s anger; the family was torn apart; and she never got to see her favorite son again. When you try to make it happen, you only make a mess. God says, “Woe to the obstinate children…to those who carry out plans that are not Mine…heaping sin upon sin” (Isaiah 30:1 ); so much unnecessary pain because we try to play God and make something happen. It’s really liberating when you let God grow you from a “make it happen” person to a God-trusting “let it happen” person. There’s a whole lot more about a significant life at our website, and a lot of resources to encourage you. Would you check it out? It’s ALifeThatMatters.org.
