I happened to be listening to XM Radio when the news broke, and every reporter who talked about it said how stunned they were. The governor of one of the largest states in the country had just been exposed as being involved with a prostitution ring. And it shocked us because this governor has come to prominence as a highly ethical crime fighter. In his press conference here’s what he said, “I have disappointed and I’ve failed to live up the standard I expected for myself.” Yeah, well who hasn’t?

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and you know, it’s hard to shake the shame for the things that we’ve done that we thought we would never do; the things we wish we hadn’t done.

Now, David in the Old Testament knew that shame, and he told about how he found a way to be free. Here’s what he said, “For day and night your hand was heavy upon me.” He’s talking to God. “My strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said I’ll confess my transgressions to the Lord, and you forgave the guilt of my sin” (Psalm 32:4-5 ).

Man, there is no feeling like knowing that you are finally clean inside from all the junk of your life and you’re able to run without baggage into a life that matters. That’s what Jesus has done for me; that’s what He’s done for so many people at an unspeakably high price. He took all the guilt and all the hell of all the junk of our lives on Himself when He died on the cross so we could be forgiven, so we could be free. You may want that.
