Download MP3 (right click to save) It was one of those nights when the moon is amazing. We were watching the full harvest moon rising in the eastern sky literally lighting up the countryside. As I was looking at the clearly defined features of the moon that night, I had a strange thought. I said to our friends, "Just think, there's another whole side of the moon that the light never touches."
I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I must have been really waxing philosophical that night. I said, "It's kind of like us, isn't it? The part of us that the light has touched is beautiful, but we all have our 'dark side of the moon' don't we, where the light seldom, if ever, touches?" I know that the parts of my life that I've most opened up to Jesus are the brightest and the most transformed. He's the Sun that illuminates our moon, the Light that changes the dark side of us. It's the parts of us that we keep control of, the areas we keep from Jesus - those are the ones that hurt us and hurt those we love and hurt our Savior. They are stubborn strongholds of our sinfulness; how I get my way, how I handle stress or pain or conflict - the dark, cold side of the moon. Here's what God says: "If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin" (1 John 1:6-7 ). We can accept our dark side or we can say, "It has done enough damage," and then drop to our knees and ask the Light of the world to set us free by the power of His Cross.
