Download MP3 (right click to save) Romance doesn’t seem to care about convenience; love will go wherever to be with the beloved one, right? Take our son, for example. The woman he fell in love with and ultimately made our wonderful daughter, lived many miles down a rough and rutted gravel road across open range, and across dusty desert terrain. He was dodging cattle and jackrabbits on every trip to his honey’s house. In the first leg of his trip to her house, he was on this nice paved highway. And if all he cared about was a smooth ride, he could have stayed on that road, right? But it wouldn’t have taken him to the destination he wanted—the woman he loved. There was only one way to get to her—the rough road. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and Jesus told us that we have the same kind of choice that our son had in his pursuit of his future wife; a choice between two roads. Jesus said, “Wide is the gate and broad is the road.” Woah! Now wait! That sounds like the road you’d want to be on, smooth and easy, right? No, “that leads to destruction. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthews 7:13-14). The choice is pretty stark: a road that’s easy, but it doesn’t take you where you want to go; a road that’s hard, but it takes you to a life-destination instead of over a cliff. So do you decide what you’re going to do based on how easy it will be, or on what will get you to the beautiful destination? See, the easy road only starts easy. It ends up really hard with guilt and shame and regrets and hell. The hard road starts hard, but ultimately it is the only road that will take you where you really want to go!
