Download MP3 (right click to save) Christmastime was “break out the bathrobe” time for us church kids; time to play shepherds and various other characters in the annual Christmas play. (By the way, I’m pretty sure shepherds never wore bathrobes.) We had Mary and Joseph and shepherds and wise men and angels—even an innkeeper, but we never had anybody play the chief priests and teachers of the law, even though they were part of the Christmas story, too. I’m Ron Hutchcraft. Now, when the wise men came to King Herod and asked about where the king of the Jews was prophesied to be born, Herod asked “the chief priests and teachers of the law” the Bible says. They said, “In Bethlehem…for this is what the prophet has written: ‘But you, Bethlehem…out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of My people” (Matthew 2:3-6 ). These guys were really religious; they spent their lives reading, studying and reciting the Scriptures, and they knew that the baby the wise men were looking for was the Savior and He would be found in Bethlehem. You’d expect them to be running all the way to the manger. But they never made a move. They knew all about the Savior, but they missed Him, like a lot of church folks do even today. It’s possible to have a lot of Jesus in your head and never have Him in your heart; to have lots of Christianity but miss Christ; to know all about how to go to heaven and still go to hell. Because you’ve never done what the wise men did—fall at Jesus’ feet and make Him your personal Lord and Savior. Isn’t it time to move Him from your head to your heart now at Christmas time? We’d love to help you do that and know that you belong to Him. Check out our website. I think it’ll encourage you and help you…ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: Matthew 2:3-6 |
