Download MP3 (right click to save) Until she retired, she was often the deciding vote on the Supreme Court—Sandra Day O’Connor. Not long ago she resurfaced, giving testimony before a Senate Committee about the disease that has diminished her husband for some eighteen years—Alzheimer’s Disease—a disease that has even claimed a President of the United States, Ronald Regan. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and over ten years Ronald Regan gradually lost all awareness of the major chapters of his extraordinary life. First, his career as a movie star, he forgot everything about it, then being Governor of California, then all recollection of being President of the United States. But amazingly there was one thing he remembered almost to the end. In his office there was a picture of the Rock River, and when people would ask him nearly to the end “Mr. Regan, what is that?” He’d say, “Oh, that’s where I was a lifeguard when I was seventeen years old. That’s where I saved seventy-seven lives.” After everything else was gone, that was the one thing that remained; the lives he saved. That’s what will remain as the legacy of your life and mine; the lives we saved. That’s what makes a life a life that matters. The Apostle Paul said of the people he had introduced to Jesus, “What is our hope, our joy, the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus? Indeed, you are our glory and joy” (1 Thessalonians 1:19-20 ). People in heaven because of you—an undying legacy. Our site is all about how to take them to heaven with you. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. I hope you’ll go there because God put you here to live a life that matters. This radio program references: 1 Thessalonians 1:19-20 |
