Most people would have called it a dump—a 200,000 square foot old building in a deteriorated urban area, long deserted, most of the windows broken. But one Christian businessman looked at it and saw more than the dump everyone else saw. He saw what could be transformed into an active citywide ministry center. I toured that building recently. It’s the center for feeding and clothing the needy, reaching skaters, reaching hunters, and offices for ministries, all because one man saw, not what it was, but what it could be. That’s exactly what my Jesus has been doing for 2,000 years.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and Jesus was a carpenter who remodeled people. Look at Simon, who later became the leader of the disciples—Peter. Andrew had just come to Jesus, and he wanted his brother to know Jesus. And it says, “He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Peter.” (John 1:40-42 ). Peter means “rock.” When most people saw Simon they saw an impulsive roller coaster, but when Jesus looked at Simon, He saw not what Simon was, but what Simon could be if He followed Jesus—a rock.

That’s how he looks at you, my friend, not at what you are, but what He could make you if you’ll surrender to His Lordship, surrender to His plans. He makes angry people into gentle people, self-centered people into those who put others first, weak people into strong people. You don’t have to be what you’ve always been. Jesus is the King of makeovers if you let Him drive.
