We were at a meeting at a youth conference at the New Jersey shore, and Jenny decided to go to the boardwalk where there were lots of amusements and health food. Yeah right. Well, she heard a cry actually from the water, and she ran down to the beach even though it was dark. Of course, the beach was closed. She jumped in; she saved a woman’s life. I said, “How did that feel?” Jenny said, “There’s nothing more scary than the ocean at night.” I said, “Why did you go in then if you were so afraid?” She said, “Someone would die if I didn’t.”

I’m Ron Hutchcraft and what if Jenny had said, “Well, wait until I get a lifeguard, ma’am, they know how to do this better?” that life would have been lost. She realized that the one responsible is the one where the dying person is. Now that’s how God looks at me. That’s how He looks at every one of us who belongs to Jesus. We’re responsible for the spiritually dying people that are near our stretch of beach—where we work, where we live, where we go to school, and where we recreate.

Speaking of the people we know who don’t know Him; God says, “If you do not warn him in order to save his life, he will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood” (Ezekiel 3:18 ). It’s sobering stuff. We can’t wait for someone more qualified to tell our people about Jesus; He’s positioned us to tell them. You’re God’s spiritual lifeguard for your stretch of beach, and helping someone be in heaven with you is the ultimate life that matters.
