Download MP3 (right click to save) Schoenbrunn was the first settlement established in what we now call Ohio. It was a community of four hundred Christian Indians, established by a dedicated missionary to Native Americans. They established the first school and the first church in Ohio. As I walked through the recreation of that historic community, I made the hike over to the cemetery they called simply, “God’s acre.” I was struck by the fact that none of the grave markers said “died” by the expiration date of their life. Instead, two little words: “Went home.” I’m Ron Hutchcraft. What a great description. What a Bible-supported description of what’s really going on when the life of a Jesus-follower is over. They “go home.” Jesus said to those who belong to Him: “Let not your heart be troubled. In My Father’s house are many mansions. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself.” (John 14:1-3 ). The Bible goes on to say that when we are “away from the body” we are “at home with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8 ). Well, so much for the fear of death. Only Jesus could give us an eternal life insurance policy like this because only He died to remove the sin that keeps us from heaven, and He’s the only one who ever lived who walked out of His grave out of His own power. That’s is why it’s so important that you make sure that you’ve put yourself in His hands to be your personal Savior because then, well, all death can do to you—is send you home! If you’d like to have the peace of knowing where you’re going when you die, I hope you’ll check out our website—it’s ALifeThatMatters.org.
