This was the date my Dad cried every year. It was the anniversary of the day my baby brother died when I was four years old. He was only six months old. One day he was smiling and he was healthy; the next day he was gone from something the doctors couldn’t even diagnose. My folks were crushed. Why would God send our family that little guy and then take him away after only six months? Lot of people have those kinds of “Why, God?” questions. I don’t have all the “why” about life’s hurts, but I’ve seen how God can use them.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft. See, our family never went to church. I knew nothing about Jesus. My brother died, my Dad thought he should take his one surviving son to church. He waited outside, reading his paper, smoking his cigarette. One day I came running to the car, announcing that I had accepted Jesus into my heart. Dad didn’t really understand, but he knew it wasn’t a bad thing. Someone invited my Dad to come in for a men’s Sunday School class, and a few months later, he gave his heart to Jesus, followed by my Mom.

Dad became deacon, chairman of the board of deacons, helped start two Youth for Christ chapters, and it’s been my privilege to be there for thousands of people finding the Jesus I found in that church because a baby died. Our family was led to Christ by a little missionary from heaven who never spoke a word. I learned that there’s a better question than “Why, God?” It’s “How can God use this?” Because “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28 ).

You may be needing some spiritual encouragement right now. I hope our website could be that for you. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org.

This radio program references: Romans 8:28
