Our two-year-old granddaughter had just arrived with her parents for a Christmas visit, and within minutes, I found her wandering through the house with the cardboard center tube from a wrapping paper roll in her hand and a concerned look on her face. And I said, "What are you doing, honey?" She said, "I'm looking for my sheep." Well, the cardboard tube had just become a shepherd's staff. I knew one of our Nativities had some little plastic sheep in it, so I led my little shepherd girl there. She picked up one of those lambs and ran back to Mommy and Daddy, all smiles, and she joyfully announced, "I found my lost sheep!" You know something? That little girl has the heart of Jesus.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and here's the word picture Jesus used to explain how much He loves us: "If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one who wandered off?" (Matthew 18:12 ,13). You know, He said in His personal mission statement that He came "to seek and save what was lost" (Luke 19:10 ). Well, that's me; that's all of us. When Jesus looks at you and me, He sees a sheep that will be lost forever unless He comes looking for us. And Jesus is God come looking for you. He had to go all the way to a cross to die for our sin to bring us home, because the death penalty for hijacking our lives had to be paid. Strangely, He may have come looking for you this very day through these brief thoughts. He paid a high price to find you. Would you reach for Him while He’s close? Let Him put you on His shoulders and carry you home.
