Download MP3 (right click to save) We passed this sign promoting a cave for tourists to visit and advertising “A cool 60 degrees.” Sounds like a great reason to stop on a 90-degree day. Right? I’ve driven by that same cave billboard during the winter months and it made me smile. They change one word and they invite you to enjoy “a warm 60 degrees.” Sounds like a great reason to stop on a 30-degree day! I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and that cave is a good place to be in all seasons, because it’s always the same; it’s got a stable temperature. In my lifetime, I have met some very special people who are like that—a person who always sets a stable temperature, no matter whether the environment is hot or cold. Now that doesn’t make them a caveman or a cavewoman, but it sure does make a person a refuge where people feel comfortable and feel secure. I think one of the greatest compliments you could receive is, “You’re the kind of person who makes people feel safe when they’re with you.” Either you’re a thermometer person, who reacts to the temperature of what’s going on around them or you’re a thermostat, who sets the temperature: steady, peaceful, un-condemning, supportive, positive, taking people with you in prayer to the Throne Room of God. It’s the kind of person God produces when they surrender to His Spirit’s control for each day’s challenges. The Bible says, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 6:22-23 ). That’s God’s man or woman in every situation; setting the right temperature, no matter what the season. This radio program references: Galatians 6:22-23 |
