You’ve got strength; you’ve got speed you didn’t know you had. Then, when the crisis passes, you’re back to normal. What happened? Adrenaline—it’s the miracle chemical that your body releases into your system when you really need it, so you can handle things that you normally couldn’t handle.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and the same God who gave us adrenaline to rise to physical challenges does the same thing with all kinds of life challenges. It’s called grace. Here’s a working definition of grace: it’s God’s intervening love and power when you’re on empty. Or spiritual adrenaline, released when you need it, in the amount you need for the situation you face. The Bible puts it this way, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16 ). The Greek word for “help us” there is used in another place to describe holding a storm-battered ship together. So God’s grace is literally what holds you together when the storm would otherwise tear you apart, which means you will never have news from the doctor or the boss, your spouse or your child for which you will not have matching grace—things you can’t imagine being able to handle. Well, you’ve never had the grace, but you will when you need it. And with God’s adrenaline, there’s nothing you will not be able to handle. It really is amazing grace! There’s so much more spiritual encouragement at our website, and I hope you’ll pay us a visit. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: Hebrews 4:16 |
