Download MP3 (right click to save) The other day I got the news that one our grandchildren may need a potentially risky major medical procedure. And after I got the news, I’ve got to tell you, my mind began racing ahead to some troubling scenarios. Somewhere in the middle of my “how are we all going to handle this?” tailspin, I found myself giving myself a wakeup call. “Hey, Ron! Stop it now!” That was the mental slap I needed to arrest my descent into Worry Valley. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and since then, when my mind’s begun to wander into all the “mights” and “coulds” and “what ifs” of the situation, I’ve known what to do, “Stop it now!” which pleases Jesus. In just ten verses in Matthew, for instance, He says three times, “Do not worry…do not worry…do not worry.” He gives the reason not to worry, “Your Heavenly Father knows that you need them.” That can be whatever we need at that point in our life. Finally, He says, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:25-34 ). God promises that “as your days are, so shall your strength be” (Deuteronomy 33:25 ). All the strength I need for Monday, but I don’t get Tuesday’s strength until Tuesday comes. So if I’m worrying about Tuesday on Monday, I’m running ahead of my supply lines and I’m trying to handle it without God’s strength. So put your tomorrows in the hands of your all-knowing, all-loving God. And when you find yourself starting to be overwhelmed by what might be ahead, give yourself that 3-word, worry-beating order, “Stop it now!” This radio program references: Matthew 6:25-34 ; Deuteronomy 33:25 Learn how to share these articles with your friends (video tutorial) |
