Download MP3 (right click to save) Here’s a possible Thanksgiving dinner scenario that mirrors something that actually happened to us at a family-style farm restaurant. The turkey is served—the guy carving it just piles it up on his plate, ignoring everyone else but his wife. He grabs the stuffing, loads his plate, sets it down; same with the potatoes, the corn, the cranberries, the rolls. Pretty soon, you’ve got two people at one end of the table stuffing themselves, and most of the people holding up their naked plates—starving. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and what’s not so funny is the picture that portrays of the spiritual situation in our world today—Christians piling all the blessings on their plates while most of the world is starving without our Jesus. It’s reminiscent of a story in the Old Testament where the Jews’ capital city’s under siege and the people are desperate with starvation. Four lepers whose disease forces them to live outside the city walls decide that their only hope of survival is to go to the enemy camp and throw themselves on their mercy, and much to their surprise God has miraculously frightened the enemy forces into running for their lives, abandoning their camp, and their food. After hours of stuffing themselves one of the lepers says, “We’re not doing right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves” (2 Kings 7:9 ). Could that be us? Loading up on more and more blessing, ignoring the dying people who desperately need the good news we have about Jesus? We cannot wait any longer to tell them what we know about Him!
