Download MP3 (right click to save) They were in a sweat lodge for what they thought would be spiritual enlightenment. Tragically, some of them died. A sweat lodge is a place where many go for what they believe to be a spiritual cleansing—a place many Native followers of Jesus no longer go. But these were non-Native followers of a New Age leader who directed these people into an extended time in the intense steam heat of the sweat lodge and sadly, three of these spiritual seekers died as a result. I’m Ron Hutchcraft and I thought of some sobering words from the Bible as I heard this story: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12 ). That’s about much more than this recent tragic example. It’s possible to spend your whole life believing something spiritually that seems right—only to find out as you enter eternity that, in the end, it leads to death. The religious systems of the world—the new spiritualities of our time—lead us to noble things we need to do to find God, find peace, find heaven, but only God Himself can tell us how to get to Him. He says clearly in the Bible that, “You have been saved by faith, not by works” (Ephesians 2:8-9 ). Because no good works can pay what the Bible calls “the wages of sin” which is spiritual death. We can only get to God by taking what the Bible calls “the gift of God” which is eternal life through Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23 ). Why? Because only Jesus did, in fact, only Jesus could pay our death penalty—which He did on the cross. Anything else we’re trusting in for eternal life, in the end, it leads to death. We’d love to help you secure your relationship with Jesus Christ today. Would you go to our website your first opportunity? It’s ALifeThatMatters.org.
