Download MP3 (right click to save) Like a lot of guys, my friend Chuck holds off going to the doctor for as long as he can. That time came a few days ago when he hit a wall with his recurring bouts of depleted energy and strength. His red blood count was so low that they rushed him by ambulance to a bigger hospital, and after several units of blood into his body, he’s doing a lot better. They told him he’d actually been in real danger. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and you know, my friend’s life was literally saved by someone else’s blood. So was mine. Not the life I’ll have on this earth for however many years, but the life I’ll have after my last heartbeat—in eternity. Oh, look, I like to think of myself as a basically nice, religious guy. But I learned from the Bible that no amount of being good or being religious could get me into heaven, because my sin carries an eternal death penalty. In the Bible’s words, “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23 ). And you can’t pay a death penalty by being good. Somebody has to die to pay it, and somebody did. The rest of that Bible verse says, “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” I am alive spiritually because of someone else’s blood; the blood of the sinless Son of God Himself. The Bible says, “Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22 ). “He loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood” (Revelation 1:5 ). So the heaven-or-hell issue for each of us is, “What am I depending on to get me to heaven?” If it’s anything other than Jesus’ death for your sins, you have no hope of heaven. It’s only the blood He shed for your sins that can erase those sins. What you do with Him now will determine what He does with you then. If you want to be sure you belong to Him, you’ve been forgiven by Him, would you visit our website today. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org.
