Download MP3 (right click to save) I can only imagine the unspeakably deep feelings of my African-American brothers and sisters with the historic inauguration of America’s first black President. The milestone stands at the pinnacle of a story that begins with slave ships, shackles, segregation and shame. What could have been more degrading than to be owned by another human being and listed as property? It’s no wonder many of those slaves risked their lives trying to be free. History tells us that some who made it out were buried with just four telling words on their tombstones: “Born slave, died free.” I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and I hear those words and I say to myself, “That’s me. That’s my spiritual autobiography: Born slave, died free.” Because I’ve been a slave to a slave master that sucks the life out of you and ultimately takes your life from you forever. Jesus talked about it when He said, “Everyone who sins is a slave to sin” (John 8:34 ). It’s that selfish dark side of us that started controlling us even when we were very small. Babies are cute, but they instinctively live by two words: “My way.” We all do. One Bible writer spoke for all of us when he said: “What I want to do, I do not do, but what I hate I do.” Then he cries out, “Who will rescue me? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 7:15 , 24-25). See, it took Jesus giving His life on the cross to pay for our sin. The freedom line for us sin-slaves runs by the cross of Jesus. You may have been born sin’s slave; you may have lived as sin’s slave, but from this day on, you can live and you can die free! We’d love to help you get started with Him. Go to our website ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: John 8:34 ; Romans 7:15 , 24-25 |
