There was a pretty dramatic moment in New York Harbor last month. The USS New York sailed to the very point where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center stood until that fateful September 11. Many family members of people who died that day were there. Part of the hull of that ship was fashioned from steel taken from the rubble of the World Trade Center, to build a ship that will now be part of the battle against the very forces that brought those towers down.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft. Now, that’s an amazing use of recycled rubble—recycled to fight what did the damage in the first place. That’s the kind of recycling miracle God’s been doing for a long, long time. The Bible tells us that part of Jesus’ mission on earth was “to bind up the brokenhearted, to comfort all who mourn, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness for the display of His splendor” (Isaiah 61:1-3 ). Only a Savior like Jesus can take the rubble of our sin and our pain and recycle it into tenderness and empathy and compassion that can touch so many hurting lives. To, as the Bible says, “comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we…have received from God” (2 Corinthians 1:4 ).
His greatest recycling miracle is to take our sin and our shame and turn it into a Hope Story of how Jesus can change a life. So you can pay back the devil for what he stole from your life by using that life to help others come to Jesus; recycling the rubble to do damage to the very one who caused it!
Now, how can you live like that and make the greatest possible difference with the rest of your life? Check out our website. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org.
