The Dallas Cowboys may not have the best team in professional football right now, but they sure have the most impressive stadium. Their owner has built a new stadium that blows away all the others—including those gigantic video screens. Actually, one Dallas player really likes that screen. He said he can figure out the other team’s plays because, well, he can see to read their lips.

I’m Ron Hutchcraft. Now, it does give you an edge in the game if you can read your opponents’ moves, right? That’s a really good idea when it comes to the spiritual opponent who wants to ruin your life. The Bible describes “your enemy the devil” who “prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8 ). Now, God tells us to not let Satan, “…outwit us, for we are not,” it says, “unaware of his schemes” (2 Corinthians 2:11 ).

See, the devil’s constantly trying to use your needs, your weaknesses, your fears to pull you into destructive choices and away from the God who loves you. And Jesus revealed your enemy’s primary strategy so that you don’t have to fall for it. He said, “He is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44 ). If you were to analyze the times you’ve made sinful choices that you later regretted, I think you’d find they all were because of some lie you believed—about your worth, about God, about where to find love or where your identity is.

Your defense? Well, as soon as you start believing the old lies, take your stand and tell the devil, “I know who this is. I know where this goes. And I’m not going there anymore!”

Well listen, we’ve got some more spiritual encouragement at our website and I hope you check it out. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org.
