I walk into a room, and I instinctively flip the light switch on even when we’re in the middle of days with a power outage, which we were recently. So here I am, absent-mindedly flipping light switches and finding the room as dark as before. Those switches made it look like there was light, except suddenly they weren’t connected to the power. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and there are people like that spiritually. Oh, they’ve got all the appearances of being “on” spiritually except they’re not connected to the power that comes only from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Church can’t give that to you; Christianity can’t give that to you; having Jesus all around you won’t give you His power for living. The power has to come from Jesus in you. The Bible talks about people who have “a form of godliness” but are lacking “its power” (2 Timothy 3:5 ). Deep in your heart, you can probably tell if the power of Jesus is there or not. You can have it all on the outside, like a good light switch, and still lack the power of Christ in your tough times, your lonely times. Your dark side is just about as dark as ever because only Jesus on the inside can change the sin you’ve never been able to change. This is why God gives this sobering challenge to church folks in the Bible: “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ is in you, unless, of course, you fail the test” (2 Corinthians 13:5 ). You may be one invitation away from Jesus the belief, Jesus the religion, and making Him Jesus your personal Savior. If you want to know more about that and move from knowing about Him to knowing Him, would you visit our website—AlifeThatMatters.org.
