For years, I had the privilege of working with, and our son had the privilege of playing for, a championship football team at our local high school. They had been almost an automatic win for the other team until the new coaching staff took over. And in one season, they turned those boys from losers to champions. But as good as they were, the coaches never scored a single point in a single game. The game ultimately had to be won or lost by the players on the field.

I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and it's the same way with the most important contest in the world - the battle for human hearts, to rescue people from the darkness of a life without Christ and an eternity without Christ. Sadly, surveys show that relatively few of Jesus' followers ever tell what they know about Jesus and His love. One reason, we think that job is up to the religious professionals. Our pastor will do that; the evangelist will do it. But that's not how it works. They're the coaches; you are the player. Every day you're on the field where the game is won or lost. You're with those lost people every day. You can see their faces and think of their names. You're in their world, you're in their life, you have the connection. It's up to you!

Our Lord grieves that "the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few" (Matthew 9:37 ). He's got lost people ready for Him. Harvest means ready, but they'll die ready if someone doesn't go get them, and you're right there next to them. So no more staying in the stands or expecting the coach to win the game. It is up to you, and you just made varsity!
