Download MP3 (right click to save) It took me a while to admit it, but my arms were no longer long enough for me to read what was in my hand. Yeah, in other words, I needed glasses. You see, I’m farsighted. I see what’s far but not what’s close. Spiritually, I–and most of my fellow Christians–have to battle the opposite vision problem.
I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and Jesus’ disciples had gone into a Samaritan town for groceries. Meanwhile, Jesus was at a well, introducing a woman from the village to eternal life. She went back and got her whole village interested in checking out Jesus. They were flooding toward Jesus and His disciples when the Bible says, “His disciples urged Him, ‘Rabbi, eat something’.” Jesus told them, “Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest” (John 4:31-35 ). In other words, there are people all around you who are ready for Jesus, and you’re all focused on your lunch. Get your eyes off your lunch and look at the lost. It’s spiritual nearsightedness. You can see the things that are close to you, but you’re missing the important things that are just beyond your personal universe. So many of us are all focused on our family, our church, our world that we totally miss the lostness of people all around us. We see neighbors, shoppers, coworkers, and fellow students. But Jesus sees the future inhabitants of heaven or hell, depending on whether they hear what Jesus did on the cross for them and ask Him to be their Savior. Whether they get that information depends on us. Spiritual nearsightedness can cost people we know everything. That’s why our website is there, to help you take people to heaven with you.
