Download MP3 (right click to save) Be careful with your credit card these days; a lot of identity theft going on. My friend had her purse taken off the back of her restaurant chair; got a call two days later—somebody was buying stuff in Argentina with her card. It can be expensive to lose your identity. I’m Ron Hutchcraft, and the story of that first Christmas, a Jewish teenager named Mary, she had to face losing a lot of what gave her identity. When the angel came, he announced that though she was a virgin, a baby would be miraculously conceived in her. He would be the Son of God! Now that’s amazing, but it’s potentially very costly. See, she’s engaged to be married. Is her fiancé going to believe she’s pregnant without having sexual relations? She’s got a great reputation in Nazareth. That’s going to go out the window. She could even be stoned according to Jewish law. I’ve got to tell you, I am really challenged by how this teenage girl understands who she really is. She says, “I am the Lord’s servant” (Luke 1:38 ). If her identity is the guy who loves her–and it is that for some women—she’s going to lose that maybe. If her identity is everybody’s good opinion of her, and boy we all want that, she might lose that identity. But she’s got an un-stealable, un-loseable identity–she is God’s girl! If your identity is like your job, your sport, a relationship, your good looks, or your ministry, you can never be secure. You might lose it. But if your identity is firmly anchored in who you are in Jesus Christ, nothing can ever take it away. So why don’t you say it with Mary this Christmas, “I know who I am. I am the Lord’s servant.” Hey, we’ve got some Christmas Moments at our website. I hope you’ll go visit us there this season. It’s ALifeThatMatters.org. This radio program references: Luke 1:38 |
